If you continue to read you will find information about the town and the list of our Villas in Chiusdino.
Chiusdino is located in the province of Siena, between the Maremma and the Crete Senesi. The town is fortified and has preserved its
medieval aspect over the centuries. Located on one of the Tuscan hills of the Val di Merse, the town deserves to be explored in every corner. Visit the Church of San Martino, the Church of San Michele near the house where San Galgano was born, the Castle Frosini and the beautiful Abbey of San Galgano with the Hermitage Monte Siepi.
The Abbey of San Galgano is a Cistercian monastery dating back to the XIII century and having no roof, this church has become one of the most visited places in the south of Tuscany. Legends and ancient secrets mysteriously surround this place and the Hermitage Monte Siepi confirms the veiled magic around this area. The circular hermitage is adorned with a fresco by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in the sacristy dating back to the fourteenth century and inside the church there is the sword in the stone of San Galgano. It was the saint who put the sword in the stone as a symbolic gesture of abandonment of the war in favor of the monastic life: the sword in the stone therefore became emblematically a cross.
Among the events in Chiusdino do not miss in August the Festival of Chiusdino with theater and classical music concerts, the Opera Festival at the Abbey of San Galgano with operas and concerts in a highly suggestive atmosphere, the `Mostra Mercato, Antiquariato, Hobbistica e Artigianato` (Antiques, Hobby and Crafts Fair) and every weekend the concerts, the shows and the culinary delights of `Feste a Chiusdino`. Do not miss also the ancient game called ` 'Palla eh!', involving all citizens of Ciciano.
The typical products of Chiusdino are mainly mushrooms and sausages made from the Cinta Senese, a breed of pig grown in these areas. Among the recipes we mention`acqua cotta` and the `cappellette grigliate alla Nepitella`, dishes made with mushrooms. For the gourmands in September the Festival of cakes in Montalcinello delights the palates of all ages. Select one of our Villas in Chiusdino for your next holiday in Tuscany.
