The sixteenth century, the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries were fun, banquets, luxury and leisure. The nobles in those centuries enjoyed organizing luxurious banquet with dancing and live music in their country property. In particular, the Villa Imperiale, Villa di Castello and the Villa Ambrogiana are named in the various documents with accurate descriptions of the dances, music and theater performances that entertain banquet guests.
In addition to balls and parties, the Medici and other noble families of Tuscany entertain themselves in hunting and fishing competitions. Hunting, in particular, was a favorite pastime both by men and women of the time. The women in those centuries began, in fact, to have greater authority and freedom, being able to spend their free time having fun with almost no hesitation. Hunting was organized and practiced in many properties, including the Villa di Poggio a Caiano, Artimino, the Ambrogiana, Le Magie and Monte Vettolini that due to their proximity created a large extented wooded area, perfect for hunting.
These centuries, especially the seventeenth century, are the period of attention to the Italian and European luxury fashion. The Spanish and French trends reached Tuscany and the noblewomen and noblemen of the time did not miss the chance to show off their best clothes and jewelry at parties and banquets. Among the latest fashions of the time even tobacco arrived and was smoked by both men and women. In October 1673, the Grand Duke Ferdinand II had even to issue a law to limit the ostentation of luxury items and accessories in the city of Florence and its suburbs.
As in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries still today Tuscany offers excellent local produce (although you will not need to go hunting!) and luxury fashion.
