Ortignano Raggiolo is a town in the province of Arezzo, located on the eastern side of the Pratomagno and part of the territory of Casentino. This town is divided into two main towns: Ortignano and Raggiolo.
From
Ortignano the view is spectacular: woods, hills and farther the
Giogalto Castle and the
Fronzola Castle.
Along the road that enters into town, we find the
St. Matteo e Margherita Church and inside the town there are many houses with important historical coats of arms on the arches of the doors belonging to noble families .
Raggiolo is a beautiful village whose citizenship has created itineraries to discover the historic center and appreciate the traditions of this town. The
St. Michele Church is the main church of the town and the medieval origins can still be seen on the facade. Curious the wall of forgotten words: on some stones of a wall of the town there are some written words that today we no longer use. On the outside of the town there are many ancient water mills on the river Barbozzaia.
In Raggiolo we find also the `Museo della Castagna` (Chestnut Museum), dedicated to the main product of this area. Not to be missed the traditional `Festa di Castagnatura` (Chestnut Festival) every year in October.
