Villa Rodocanacchi in Livorno
Villa Rodocanacchi is a villa dating back to the seventeenth century in the province of Livorno. The villa is now used by the Hospital of Livorno and is surrounded by a large park open to the public where you can spend pleasant hours with your family and friends during your holiday in Tuscany.
Villa Rodocanacchi was in the past Villa Scheriman. The villa was in fact built in the seventeenth century by Scheriman, a count who worked for the Certosa di Calci. During your stay in one of our villas in Tuscany we suggest you to visit this beautiful monastery, the Certosa di Calci, built in the late fourteenth century, a few kilometers from the city of Pisa. Scheriman built a villa in late-Renaissance style following the architectural trends of many other villages of Livorno and Florence built in the same years. A clock, an arcade and various statues embellish the facade.
In 1822 the villa was sold to Grant but only for a few years; it was sold again in 1843 to Emanuele Rodocanacchi. Rodonacchi restored the villa and the park. The family called the architect Castellucci to renovate the villa. Castellucci was a Florentine and made some changes in the style of nineteenth-century villas of Florence. The terrace is iron and glass, an important element of this particular structure. It is covered and clearly visible on the facade that faces the park.
The interior was decorated with precious objects and various elements in an eclectic style. Carpets, tapestries, statues, chandeliers and wallpaper decorated the villa at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1886 the architect Bertini made a particularly beautiful mosaic floor. Also the frescoes are from the same period and they were on the first floor in some rooms and reception hall. These frescoes were probably made by Giuseppe Maria Terreni. Unfortunately today are lost.
The large romantic park is one of the most beautiful parks in Livorno and certainly worth a visit.
