Villa Torrigiani is located in Camigliano in the province of Lucca, near the town of Capannori. Capannori was an area beloved by the noble families of Lucca. Several beautiful villas were built there between the sixteenth and the twentieth century. The construction of Villa Torrigiani dates back to the late sixteenth century when the property belonged to Buonvisi. About a century after the Santini family became the owner and changed the structure enlarging the two sides of the villa, creating a grand staircase with two scenic balconies and decorative statues. Nicolao Santini was ambassador to the Republic of Lucca and probably was inspired by Versailles for the architectural changes made to the villa.
In 1816 Vittoria Santini married Pietro Guadagni Torrigiani and therefore the villa goes to the family Torrigiani that gave the actual name of the villa. In the nineteenth century the Torrigiani family mainly modifies the garden created in 1650 by Santini. The round pool and the garden of Flora dates back to the seventeenth century. The garden in French style dates back to the nineteenth century and its subsequent changes were made in the twentieth century. An avenue of cypress trees of about 700 meters connects the gate to the villa, creating a nice game of perspective. In the property there is also a small village where the servants probably lived.
An aviary, a fish pond with water feature, flower beds nicely symmetrical and decorative stairs make this garden a paradise for lovers of green spaces. To impress guests, the Nymphaeum of Winds, a particular architecture with caves and tunnels under the stairs.
