The Baciocchi villa and park in Pisa

The property has very ancient origins. According to some important historical documents, in 843 there was a large castle in these places. The center of the castle was probably in the same place where the great house was built in late baroque style. It was later restored in the eighteenth century when the new owner was Alexander Orazio Pucci, a prominent politician. The villa is known as the Villa Bourbon del Monte Baciocchi as it was bought in 1833 by the family Baciocchi. The family Baciocchi brought further changes and restorations to the villa. In addition, together with the family Borghini, the Baciocchi changed the park, creating a romantic garden as it was fashionable in the mid-nineteenth century.
The Baciocchi Villa has several frescoed rooms and some are still visible today with the profiles of Felice Baciocchi and his wife Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi. In fact, the court of Napoleon's sister never lived in this villa. The artist Luigi Bellincioni Baciocchi entrusted the decoration and construction of buildings in the park. He created several small buildings in the Gothic Revival style and caves especially impressive.
Today in the park of the villa there is a Zoological Museum and an Archaeological Documentation Centre with a large number of stuffed animals. There are over 1400 animals and there are educational courses to get to know them better. In the Archaeological Documentation Centre there are artifacts found in the seven major towns of the area, among which there are ancient Etruscan tombs. Finally, the garden is a botanical park with over 160 species of plants.
