Villa Crastan in Pisa
Crastan Villa is a beautiful villa of the nineteenth and twentieth century which is located in the historic town of Pontedera, near Pisa.
As many other foreigners who have come to Italy and then have fallen in love with it, also the Crastan family with Swiss origin decided to move to Tuscany. In the nineteenth century the Crastan family moved from Switzerland to Pontedera where they decided to live and to create a coffee roasting factory now famous all over the world. The design of the villa comes from the architect Arrighi. The owner who asked for the project was Manlio Crastan. The biggest changes were made in 1928 when the villa became similar to the one of today.
The facade of the house is symmetrical with many windows and a staircase. Three arcs represent the main entrance and create an internal loggia. A beautiful garden surrounds the villa. In the garden you can admire a fish pond with a stone balustrade which is particularly colorful. There is also a small cave. The villa represents in fact the passage from the typical architecture of the nineteenth century to the tastes and styles of the twentieth century. The iron fence that borders the property is a work by Luigi Bellincioni.
The villa now houses the Municipal Library of Pontedera and is therefore open to visitors. During your holidays in one of our villas or farmhouses in Pisa we suggest you to discover the old town of Pontedera, with its churches and museums and maybe to visit also Villa Crastan.
