Villa Le Fehr in Pisa
Villa Fehr is a beautiful villa in the province of Pisa. The villa is located in the municipality of Vicopisano, not far from Pisa, Lucca and San Giuliano Terme.
Villa Fehr belongs to the family Fehr Walser. The family Fehr Walser is from Switzerland and is the owner of the estate from the mid nineteenth century. In the property there is also a fortress, the Rocca del Brunelleschi. At the end of the nineties, the fortress was restored and is now open. In addition to the fortress and the villa in the property there was also the Monastery of St. Francis. In the eighteenth century, Pietro Leopoldo dissolved the religious groups and many church properties, churches, convents, monasteries were desecrated and sold to individuals. Many were the noble Tuscan families who acquired these properties. Among these, also the Monastery of St. Francis was deconsecrated and sold to private individuals.
The Brunelleschi's Fortress is located in the property of Villa Fehr. The castle has very ancient origins, before the eleventh century. The tower is 31 meters high. The sides of the castle walls are 15 meters long. The keep was six stories high and had a long wall that connected the fortress located on the hills to the valley and to the river Arno. The wall was 70 meters long. The fortress was restored by Brunelleschi between 1435 and 1440 and that is why it is known as the Rocca del Brunelleschi.
Villa Fehr was built in 1830. The architect in charge of the construction of the villa was Bellincioni. The family Fehr Walser recently restored the ancillary buildings present within the estate. The villa is open to the public and can be visited during the months of April-July and September-November on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
