Villa Banchieri Castelmartini in Pistoia
Among the private villas that can be visited in Pistoia there is the splendid Villa Banchieri Castelmartini. The villa is located in the province of Pistoia in the town of Larciano in a place called Castelmartini.
The property has very ancient origins. Since the thirteenth century in these lands in fact there was a castle. The fort was built by Martino di Jacopo Ammannati that in that century was the lord of the territory. The family Ammannati owned the castle for many centuries. The transformation from castle to villa came gradually over the centuries and there were many families who stayed there. After Ammannati, the Panciatichi family and also the Medici family for a certain period. Later it passed to the Lorena who kept it until 1777 when the entire estate was transferred to Banchieri. The name of the villa, Villa Banchieri, in fact dates back to the eighteenth century by the owners who have kept and partially restored the villa.
In the nineteenth century the family Banchieri called the architect Francesco Bartolini, also from Pistoia. Probably the renovation of the villa was completed in 1890: the coat of arm of the family that brings this date is engraved on it. The villa with the restructuring of the Bartolini took a Renaissance style and thus losing the original medieval aspect and the following structural changes in the sixteenth century.
The villa has an elongated rectangular shape and are still visible steps for the carriages. There is a farmhouse, barn and three courtyards. The frescoes in the halls are by Enea Fiori and follow an eclectic style, typical of the artists of Florence in the nineteenth century.
The long avenue of oaks and garden characterize the park. The villa and the park is open on the first Saturday of the month by appointment. Do not miss this opportunity!
