Villa La Magia in Pistoia
Villa La Magia is located in Quarrata in the province of Pistoia. The villa belonged to the Medici family and is still visible the crest of the Medici family with six balls including five red and one blue, the highest, with three gold lilies.
In the property of Villa La Magia in the fourteenth century there was a fortress and varied terrain. The property belonged to Corrado Panciatichi, a nobleman of Pistoia. In 1583 Francesco I de' Medici bought the fort and the land and decided to instruct the architect Bernardo Buontalenti to beautify and renovate the residence. The purchase of the property is probably due to its proximity to the grounds of the villa at Poggio a Caiano and therefore the Grand Duke of the Medici's idea to extend his possessions and his hunting ground. The villa has a squared interior courtyard. In a plaque in the southern part of the villa above the door there is the date 1536, the year in which Alessandro de' Medici met the Emperor Charles V.
In 1645 the villa passed to Pandolfo Attavanti first and then in 1752 to the family Ricasoi. In 1766 the property was sold to Giulio Amati. It was probably Attavanti that did restructure the garden and building decorations and stone walls. The walls of the courtyard, however, were decorated in the early eighteenth century. In 1715 Giovanni Domenico Ferretti executed the frescoes with mythological subjects in the living room together with Giovanni Pietro Bagnoli and Cherubini.
In 2000 the house was taken by the City of Quarrata who performed major renovation work. In 2005, he completed the work and is now open to the public and can be visited free of charge on request.
