Villa Puccini di Scornio belonged to the Puccini family already in the eighteenth century. But it was in 1824 that Niccolò Puccini devoted himself to the restoration of the villa and the garden and the construction of buildings and monuments within the property dedicated to great artists, philosophers and scholars. The architect was Cosimo Rossi Melocchi. In 1838, Niccolò Puccini built the Pantheon of Illustrious Men in the garden of Villa Puccini. The project was entrusted to the architect Alessandro Gherardesca. Columns and statues to honor the great Michelangelo, Columbus, Dante, Machiavelli, Raphael, Ferrucci, Vico, Galileo, Tasso, Canova and Botta.
In the park of Villa Puccini Scornio there is also the Gothic Castle, the Tower of Catiline, the Hermitage, the Gothic Basilica. Niccolò Puccini gave a metaphorical value to each of these buildings: the castle represented Warning, the tower Memories, the hermitage Instruction, and the basilica was Faith. In the park there is a lake. A small island in the lake and at the center of the islet Puccini built a temple dedicated to Pythagoras. The temple was designed by Giuseppe Martelli.
