Villa La Carraia in Pistoia
Villa La Carraia is a noble residence which is located in the province of Pistoia in the town of Lamporecchio. Villa La Carraia is located on the road that leads to San Baronto from Lamporecchio, both towns on the hills of Pistoia which we suggest you to visit. In Lamporecchio you can also taste the famous brigidini from Lamporecchio, aniseed unique specialty. The villa is located on a very old property that had a castle in the Middle Ages. The fort had defensive power and panoramic placement that allowed to observe the whole valley. Over the centuries, the fort became superfluous and was transformed into a villa. It was the Manni family who decided to turn the defensive castle in beautiful luxury residence to live or spend their holidays. The villa was built between the sixteenth and the seventeenth century. The counts Manni have owned the property for many centuries and the family coat of arms is on the portal of the main entrance.
In the eighteenth century the restructuring continued and the owners decided to destroy the two towers of the castle, which had become unnecessary and unsightly according to the family. Eliminating the two towers from the rear of the villa, an extension was possible. In 1930 the villa was damaged due to a large fire. The Countess Anna Maria Manni Lucarini has made changes that have allowed us to bring to light the beauty and prestige which once the villa had.
The garden is in Italian style and there are many statues and cherubs located at strategic points in the park. Originally there were 47 farms, a chapel and various buildings. The view from the villa is unique because on a clear day you can even see the lighthouse at the port of Livorno.
