The Maremma is one of the most fascinating places in Tuscany with
beautiful natural areas, forests, beaches and very interesting archaeological sites. The history of Maremma, however, is related to its swamp and the enormous difficulties to reclaim it. Despite having Etruscan origin, as evidenced for example by the
archaeological area of Vulci, the area was mainly marshland until the eighteenth century when the Lorena began their work for a massive land reclamation. In the nineteenth century the Maremma became famous for the presence of bandits, who could easily hide in the woods. With the death of Domenico Tiburzi in 1896 ended the period of bandits and started a period of renaissance for this beautiful region, which today is visible to its visitors who get astonished by the landscape and the local atmosphere.
