The Villa Montaguto
The Villa Montaguto is located in Bagno a Ripoli in Province of Florence. The property is surrounded by cypress trees. The coat of arms is of the family Ciaini color blue with two gold stripes and three stars in the lower part and red with a gold leopard at the top.
What characterizes this property is the visible presence of the original building and the successive enlargements. The original fort with high crenellated tower was made of stone and dates back to the thirteenth century. The fort was probably built by Adimari. In 1543 Sebastiano Ciaini bought the entire property and from merchant he proclaimed himself as noble and added 'from Montacuto' to his noble name. While restoring the fortress Montaguto, Ciaini was building also a palace in Florence in Via dei Servi, The architect was Domenico di Baccio d'Agnolo. Ciaini asked the architect to build two wings to the main building stone using a different style and therefore making it easy to identify the medieval part compared to the sixteenth century-part. Ciaini had a financial meltdown and was forced to sell the property to the Niccolini family.
The Niccolini built the lodge in stone located in the west wing of the palace. The portal opened on the porch which dates from the seventeenth century. The frescoes on the vaults of the lodge were embellished by Niccolini. In 1892 the house passed to the family Bellucci Mascagni. The garden with cypress and oak trees was requested by the family Bellucci Mascagni, who took charge of the reforestation of the entire area surrounding the villa. In 1949 the property was purchased and skillfully restored by Henry Vallecchi who decided to start living there in 1957. The choice of furniture, paintings and engravings was made by Henry Vallecchi and Maria Luigia Guaita.
