Villa La Tana in Florence
Villa La Tana is located in Candeli in the province of Florence. The villa belonged to various families, but those who transformed it from a manor house into a villa were the Ricasoli Firidolfi. The coat of arms on the facade of the villa belongs, in fact, to the Ricasoli Firidolfi. The coat of arms is divided into four parts, each of which represents a lineage of families.
Villa La Tana was bought by Baron Ricasoli in 1631 from the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova. The property, however, has more ancient origins. In the fifteenth century there was a house with a tower of the family Bucelli from Montepulciano. In 1548 the house passed to Landi di Castellina in Chianti and in 1570 to Piero di Ser Zanobi Buonaventuri and his wife, Bianca Cappello. Bianca Cappello was the lover of Francesco I de' Medici. In the sixteenth century the house was a two storey building with a central hall. When Piero di Ser Zanobi Buonaventuri was killed, Bianca donated the property to the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova.
The Ricasoli began the renovation of the villa almost immediately after buying it, although the major changes took place in 1740 thanks to Leon Pasquale Francesco Ricasoli. The architect was Giulio Foggini. The facade is probably the most scenic part of the villa with two large curved staircases with a central grotto with a statue of Poseidon. On the stairs, several life-size terracotta statues. Going up the stairs you will reach the main entrance of the two-storey building with an additional penthouse decorated with a huge antique clock. In addition, the times and stairs create a scenographic game on the Florence hills that surround the villa.
Villa La Tana retains the name given before the seventeenth century, nestled in the woods, the house seems to be a wonderful den to rest. Just as it might be a holiday villa to rent in Tuscany for your next holiday!
