Villa Ravazzini in Florence
Located in the historic center of Florence, close to Piazza Beccaria, Villa Ravazzini is within walking distance from Villa Broggi-Caraceni. Ravazzini Villa is one of the most famous villas in the Art Nouveau style in Florence.
Villa Ravazzini was built in the early twentieth century. Probably the work was completed in 1907. As for the Villa Broggi-Caraceni, the architect of Villa Ravazzini was Giovanni Michelazzi. In 1942 the house passed to the Sebastiani Villa family. The architecture of the exterior facade reflects the style of Michelazzi and the stylistic trends of the early twentieth century. The Liberty style characterizes in fact the villa. The façade is decorated ceramics made by Galileo Chini, famous for his works in the Art Nouveau style. The ceramic panels are decorated with flowers and Chini decided to use a polychrome ceramics. In addition, the gutter has particular stylistic features: made of wrought iron has a sottogrondaia wood.
In the Fifties there were some changes, even on the external façade. On the west side, for example, it was added a wooden roof that covers the small door and some grilles protect the colored glasses that illuminate the interior of the room. In the rear side, instead, a small balcony was added.
Inside, the structure of the rooms is linked to the main stairwell lit by a side window rather broad. The early twentieth century decorations inside the villa are not there anymore. In the past it was also called Villa Blue so, according to some scholars, probably the decorations were of various shades of blue.
