Villa L`Apparita in Siena
Villa l'Apparita is located in Apparita, a short distance from the center of Siena. The villa had multiple owners. The first were the Placidi who probably built the first building. In the centuries belonged to several Sienese nobles, including the Bandinelli in the nineteenth century that sold the property to the accounts Nerucci. In the twentieth century the property passed to the family Guiso.
Villa L'Apparita has a very simple architecture. The country house was renovated in the sixteenth century. The architect, as most of the historic mansions of Siena, was Baldassarre Peruzzi. He added a loggia with arches that made the facade of the villa very elegant. Even today the entrance to the property has not real barriers, there are no gates or walls. This makes the amazing visual impact with the immediate surroundings. The villa, its garden and the hills of Siena seem to be a single element.
The park was built in the mid- twentieth century when the owner became Guiso Nanni . The gardener was the skillful architect Pietro Porcinai . This garden is certainly one of his masterpieces . The artistic talent of the owner and his passion for the theater helped Pietro to design a garden closely linked to the surrounding landscape. The garden is located around the entire perimeter of the villa. Pietro Porcinai made huge changes and moved large amounts of land even though observing the garden today everything seems to be natural and not artificial. The garden - landscape by Porcinai preserves the main trees and the most important plants in Tuscany: tall cypress trees , lavender hedges , arches of ivy, gorse , pomegranates , and of course olive trees.
Following a slope behind the house, you will reach an open air theater with 26 wooden benches and pedestals made of iron and 5 clay pots that hold . This type of theater is also important in another villa in Siena, Villa Gori. From the theater in the distance you can see the city of Siena.
