Villa Vicobello in Siena
Villa di Vicobello is located in Siena. The villa was built in the sixteenth century by the Chigi family. The coat of arms of the Chigi family is red with gold and six peaks on the highest eight-pointed star with a gold color.
Villa di Vicobello is located on top of a hill cultivated in terraces. The facade looks towards Siena. The main door is decorated with three bows. The courtyard surrounding the villa creates a unique with other smaller buildings of the same property. The park is, in fact, full of terraces and stairways sloping down to the valley. The villa was built by the Chigi family in the early sixteenth century. The Chigi was an important and wealthy family of Siena. In addition to the coat of arms of the Chigi family, the symbol of five peaks with a pyramidal shape that characterizes the coat of arms is also found in the arches and statues on the walls of the garden and the fence at the entrance of the villa.
The rooms are carefully painted and decorated. In particular, the lounge is surprising for its painted decorations. All the walls are painted with large trompe l'oeil curtains that open onto the depiction of natural scenery. These soft decorated tents were painted by the artist Spampani.
In the park there is a long tree-lined street with an arch surmounted by the coat of arms of the Chigi family. Lemon Tree is characterized by a portico, which is also decorated with the coat of arms of the Chigi family. From the garden of lemon trees, terracing down to the next will take you to the area of fruit trees and down again to the garden of azaleas. In the garden you can admire papyrus plants. In the second half of the nineteenth century Bonaventura Chigi built a botanical garden still present.
