Villa Bianchi Bandinelli in Siena
Villa Bianchi Bandinelli is located in Geggiano in the province of Siena. The villa dates back to the eighteenth century. The family who decided to bring together the various parts of the property to create an elegant country mansion was the family Bianchi Bandinelli Paparoni. The coat of arms of the family Bianchi Bandinelli Paparoni is divided into two parts: the left side represents the family Bandinelli Paparoni with gold and a blue circle at the top right with a silver knight, the right side represents the Bianchi family with a blue color background and a silver sword with three golden stars.
Villa Bianchi Bandinelli Paparoni is also known under the name of Villa Geggiano. It was given as a dowry to the family Bianchi Bandinelli by Girolama Santi for her wedding with Ranuccio Bandinelli Paparoni. In 1729 he decided to unify the existing buildings and added a room on the left side on each floor. In addition, he built a lodge on each side. The most important works were made between 1768 and 1779. The furnishings date back to the same period, late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century. The furniture was specially designed by Agostino Fantastici, an architect from Siena. He designed, for example, the canopy beds and the tables in the living rooms.
In the green living room there are large green tapestry with non-original images representing scenes of farm work and the four seasons. There are vaults on the ceiling frescoed with ironic scenes: for example, the wife hunting and the husband fishing. Even the door to the green room are decorated with scenes of rural life. The gallery entrance is decorated with frescoes by Ignazio Moder, a very famous Tyrolean painter in Siena. The frescoes depict allegories of the months of the year. They date back to 1799.
The park is characterized by an Italian garden. There are six gates decorated with pillars, vases and terracotta statues. Among the terracotta statues there are some exotic monkeys, In the park there is a large eighteenth-century theater in stone. The open-air theater features the entire park. The niches with statues of Comedy and Tragedy are work by Bosio.
