Montepulciano is situated between the hills of Val di Chiana and Val d`Orcia, in an area renowned for its vineyards and excellent wines , including, among the best known, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

The medieval town is perfectly preserved, with streets that lead up to the main square where stands the Duomo in Renaissance style of the seventeenth century. Indoors, interesting works of art: the Trittico dell`Assunta by Taddeo di Bartolo from 1401, a funerary monument in Carrara marble by Michelozzo and the altar of Gigli in terracotta by Andrea della Robbia.

In Piazza Grande we also find the Town Hall, whose façade was created by Michelozzo at the end of the fourteenth century, some important historical buildings and the beautiful well called Pozzo dei Grifi e dei Leoni. Recently, the square was chosen as a film set for a famous American film, `The Twilight Saga: New Moon`. In the territory of Montepulciano were shot also other well-known films such as `The English Patient` and `Under the Tuscan Sun`.
